With Beyonce’s new studio album being released in the US tomorrow (it’s currently available in most international countries), reviews from the press are starting to come in. June 28 has been one of the most highly-anticipated days of the year in music.
She strips away the much of the musical pyrotechnics that have anchored some of her biggest solo jams for an album more heavy on ballads, and danceable hits that charm, instead of strong-arm, their way into your psyche. – Associated Press
While her first three solo albums were full of blockbuster jams, 4 is a more relaxed, personal set that emphasizes ballads over bangers and showcases the singer’s nuances; it’s very much the sort of album a pop star makes when she doesn’t feel like she has anything to prove. – Rolling Stone
“… The terrific ”End of Time” seethes with off-balance harmonies, MJ-style Off the Wall horns, and a bionic Bo Diddley beat, all while Bey howls her eternal love to everyone and no one in particular. It’s exactly the kind of genre-busting risk that few other current pop stars would even attempt, let alone pull off flawlessly with a no-big-thing shrug. – Adam Morkovitz for EW
Pitchfork’s Ryan Dombal gives the album an extremely positive review: “It’s a fitting sentiment and song to introduce 4, which largely deals with monogamy and all that comes with committing to one person for a potential lifetime. Which, like a bad marriage, might sound boring, repetitive, staid. But, in Beyoncé’s more-than-capable and still-in-love hands, a relationship that lasts can seem as complicated and rewarding as anyone would hope.”
During her filming for tonight’s episode of Piers Morgan Tonight, Beyonce hit up London departments store, Harrods. Still in a high from last night’s giant crowd, the “End of Time” singer was still all smiles. The interview with Piers Morgan will be airing tonight at 9pm EST.
