Beyonce Knowles is adding “executive producer” to her resume.

The 10-time Grammy winner has signed on to executive produce and star in Darnell Martin’s “Cadillac Records” for Sony BMG Films.

Knowles will play Etta James in the 1950s period film about the Chicago record company Chess Records; its founder, Leonard Chess; and the turbulent lives of some of the label’s legends, who included Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin’ Wolf and Chuck Berry.

Martin (”Their Eyes Were Watching God”) penned the screenplay. Sony BMG’s Andrew Lack and Sofia Sondervan are producing for the 3-year-old specialty label.

Knowles joins a cast that includes Adrien Brody (Chess), Jeffrey Wright (Waters), Cedric the Entertainer (Willie Dixon) and Columbus Short (Little Walter). Emmanuelle Chriqui and Tammy Blanchard co-star.

CHOCOLATE DAY FOR HUNGRY BEYONCE | 3 Comments
Posted By: Monica On Friday, February 15th, 2008 at 10:20 am

Beyonce Knowles is spending St. Valentine’s Day gorging herself with chocolate because the special day falls at the end of a lengthy diet. The Crazy In Love singer admits she has been watching what she eats for the past two months - so she’d look trim and sexy next to Tina Turner at the Grammy Awards. And now the big event has passed, Knowles plans to celebrate the most romantic day of the year in style. She explains..

“I dieted before the Grammys because, after the holidays, I needed to drop a couple pounds. So, now I can eat whatever I want. I want a lot of chocolate. A lot of carbs.” “(It’ll be) really quiet - a great movie and a great meal.”

Other than that, she’s planning a quiet night in with boyfriend Jay-Z.

BEYONCE’S DAD BLASTS FRANKLIN | 1 Comment
Posted By: Monica On Friday, February 15th, 2008 at 10:15 am

Beyonce Knowles’ manager/father has fired back at “ridiculous” public comments Aretha Franklin has made about his daughter’s Grammy Awards performance on Sunday. Franklin, who is known throughout the world as the Queen of Soul, raged after Beyonce introduced her duet partner, Tina Turner, as “the queen” during the Los Angeles awards show. The R.E.S.P.E.C.T. singer has since accused Beyonce and the Grammy Awards writers of making “a cheap shot for controversy.” That comment has angered Beyonce’s father Mathew Knowles, who has lashed out at Franklin for being so precious. In a statement released on Wednesday , Knowles blasts:

“Beyonce referred to Tina as a `queen’. Not queen of gospel, queen of soul, queen of blues, Queen of England. “I consider my wife a queen and sometimes call her that. Does Aretha have a problem with that?”

Aretha Franklin has lashed out at Beyonce Knowles for giving Tina Turner her Queen of Soul tag at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (10Feb08). The R.E.S.P.E.C.T. singer, who was honoured with the Grammy MusiCares Person of The Year award, was stunned when Beyonce introduced her duet partner as the Queen of Soul. Franklin is known throughout the world at the Queen, and she felt more than a little snubbed. And, in a brief statement, Franklin snaps, “I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce, however I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy.”

NE-YO WANTED TWAIN/HILL FOR IRREPLACEABLE | 3 Comments
Posted By: Monica On Tuesday, February 12th, 2008 at 7:49 am

Superstar songwriter Ne-Yo had Shania Twain and Faith Hill in mind when he wrote Beyonce Knowles‘ biggest hit IRREPLACEABLE. The song became the biggest hit of 2007 and is a favourite to land the coveted Record Of The Year at Sunday night’s (10Feb08) Grammy Awards - but it almost became a country anthem. Ne-Yo wrote the tune with Norway’s Stargate duo Tor Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen, and now Hermansen has spoken out about their initial plans for the hit. He tells VH1.com,

“Nobody expected it to be the phenomenon it was, it surprised everyone. For one, it crosses every boundary… and it’s a song people from all walks of life can enjoy. “When we wrote it with Ne-Yo it was done first with a male vocal, and we thought, ‘This is more of a female vocal part.’ We liked it and so did Ne-Yo, but he said, ‘Who will cut this?’”

Ne-Yo, who felt the song could be a massive country hit, favoured Twain or Hill, but Hermansen suggested Knowles because he’d recently been penning tunes for her. The rest, as they say, is history.

Beyonce sparkled in Elie Saab on the red carpet at the 2008 Grammy Awards held at the Staples Center on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Cameras were flashing when Bee arrived on the red carpet for tonight’s Grammys. Looking beautiful as always, the Irreplaceable singer made one of the most noted entrances of the evening.

Wearing her hair straight and brushed to the side, Beyonce was definitely one of the most jaw-dropping attendees of at this year’s festivities.

This year is the 50th Grammy Awards ceremony, and it is definitely the biggest music event of the year. Some of the talent lined-up to perform at this year’s event included Kanye West, Amy Winehouse, John Mayer, and BeBe Winans .

Expect many photo updates from me as soon as I get all the site info I need! And keep on checking @ BeyonceDaily.org for after party , performance with Tina T , red carpet HQs and more! ;)
