Beyonce Poised to Take a Break in 2010

January 17
Interviews, News Articles

Beyonce’s New Year’s resolution is at once ambitious and surprising. The multitasking superstar, who was seemingly everywhere in 2009, hopes to spend a good chunk of 2010 not working.
“It’s definitely time to take a break, to recharge my batteries,” says Beyoncé, 28. “I’d like to take about six months and not go into the studio. I need to just live life, to be inspired by things again.”

Not that Beyoncé won’t be visible in the coming months. Just a few days before Christmas, she’s in Long Island City, shooting a pair of commercials for the Nintendo video game Style Savvy, which is introducing items from Deréon, a casual lifestyle extension of the House of Deréon line that Beyoncé created with longtime fashion adviser Tina Knowles— also her mom. The spots will air on Nickelodeon in March, in the week before the Kids’ Choice Awards and during the show.

Before that, of course, Beyoncé will perform on the Grammy Awards broadcast Jan. 31 on CBS, where she’s up for 10 trophies, more than any other artist, including album, record and song of the year. The last is for her slamming manifesto Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), one of 2009’s most ubiquitous singles (3.5 million downloads sold) and its most-streamed video. The album, I Am … Sasha Fierce, has sold 2.7 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

“I still haven’t really digested it yet,” Beyoncé says. The Grammy nominations were announced Dec. 2, two days before her spouse and fellow pop icon Jay-Z turned 40. “I was focused so much on my husband’s birthday — I threw a big party — that I didn’t really think about it. But it’s really an honor.”

Beyonce: Artist of the Decade

November 29
Interviews, News Articles

decade

It was 10 years ago that Beyoncé Knowles announced herself to the world, with the Destiny’s Child hit Independent Women. Since then the 28-year-old singerhas made the decade’s best single, delivered the greatest live show on earth, sung for President Obama and emerged as our last true star.

Why Beyoncé? Why this stunning 28-year-old singer/performer/actress/businesswoman from Texas now married to one of the decade’s other biggest stars, and worth something like $87m a year to boot, and not, well, take your pick…? Because she made not one but two of the decade’s greatest singles, with Crazy in Love and Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), not to mention her hits with Destiny’s Child; and this was the decade when singles – particularly R&B singles – regained their status as pop’s favourite medium. (But her three solo albums? Pretty fabulous, too.)

Because at a time when the ubiquity of TV talent shows put the onus on those who could cut it live more than ever, she and not any superannuated rock star was arguably the greatest live performer of the past 10 years.

Beyonce & Tina Cosmopolitan Interview

House of Dereon, Interviews, Tina, Tour

cosmobeetina.gif The Beyoncé Experience
Our chat fest with Beyoncé and Tina Knowles went into overtime and we couldn’t fit the whole info-packed interview in the magazine. So here’s more of what this dynamic mother/daughter fashion team had to say about their hip clothing line. Plus, Tina’s styling tips.

COSMO: How did your House of Dereon line come to be?
BEYONCÉ: My fans kept asking where they could get clothes like Destiny’s Child’s, so it was only natural for us to do a clothing line. I was adamant about not putting my name on something that I didn’t love. I wanted to make sure it was true and honest and really something that we designed.

COSMO: Do you design with your daughter’s style in mind?
TINA: The dresses definitely reflect Beyoncé’s taste and style.

COSMO: What’s most important to you when designing something with your name behind it?
BEYONCÉ: I’m adamant about fit. I’ve worn dresses from all different price ranges, and the thing that couture dresses have in common is that the fit is amazing.

COSMO: Does your music inspire the designs?
BEYONCÉ: Definitely. I always talk about fashion in my lyrics. The clothes aren’t made for the stage, but they’re made for women who want to feel like superstars and have eyes on them when they walk into a room.

COSMO: Have you ever had a wardrobe malfunctions on stage?
BEYONCÉ: I recently fell down the stairs because my heel got caught in the hem of my coat. But really, I’ve fallen down the stairs a lot of times, so I can’t only blame it on the coat! TINA: Remember the time, you were maybe 15, I had you in those really tall platforms and you fell? You got right back up like it was a turn, and nobody knew.

alicia.gif Fortunately, Alicia is supportive of her competition. In addition to her easygoing attitude regarding Patton, Keys is also enthusiastic about the possibility of collaborating with another potential rival – Beyoncé.

“I think that would be real fun,”

she said.

“I think that me and B would do something crazy together and be able to kinda stretch in a way that would be unexpected. So I dunno, maybe the next record or her next record. Ya know, whenever we have a second to go in a room and really zone out. I think it would be crazy.”

Beyonce Knowles – American R&B singer, songwriter, actress, and inspiration to drag queens around the globe – has now revealed some of her mannerisms come from what she sees in drag performances.

New entertainment website ‘me-me-me.tv’ asked the ‘Irreplaceable’ star if she saw herself as a gay icon. She responded:

“I definitely hope so!

“It’s so over-the-top, she says of the drag shows she’s experienced. “And I’m a frustrated drag queen! Absolutely! The more hair and the more lashes the better!

Fashion leading-light Giorgio Armani has now chosen Beyonce to represent his new fragrance – ‘Emporio Armani Diamonds’, saying she represents “glamour and elegant good taste.
