Kuala Lumpur Concert Postponed

October 19
I Am Tour, News Articles

U.S. pop star Beyonce has postponed a planned concert in Malaysia after the nation’s opposition Islamist party raised concerns about her performance, citing moral issues, concert organizers said.

Foreign acts often draw protests by the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), whose youth wing forced Beyonce to cancel her 2007 concert in the mainly Muslim nation of 27 million people.

Malaysian entertainment company Marctensia said in a statement on its website that the Beyonce “I am…” concert, planned for October 25 as part of her world tour, would be postponed to a date yet to be announced.

“The postponement is solely (the) decision of the artiste and has nothing to do with other external reasons,” the concert organizers said in the statement.

No further reason was given. Marctensia said a new date for the concert would be announced “shortly” and a statement from Beyonce’s management would be released later this week.

Beyonce to be on Her Best Behavior in Malaysia

September 24
I Am Tour, News Articles

Beyonce Knowles has sung about partying like a “naughty girl,” but Malaysians can expect her to be on her best behavior for a concert in this Muslim-majority country next month, the event’s organizer said Thursday.

The R&B superstar has attracted criticism in recent days from the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, the country’s largest opposition group, which wants authorities to scrap the Oct. 25 show because it would promote “Western sexy performances.”
Knowles, who is well-known for her provocative clothes and concert choreography, backed out of a concert in Malaysia two years ago after the Islamic party threatened to protest the show. Party officials have not planned any demonstrations for next month’s event.

Entertainment company Marctensia, the concert’s Malaysian organizer, said Knowles should be regarded as a “role model” and “embodiment of success” because of her heavy involvement in philanthropy work, including campaigns against poverty and domestic violence.

The company also allayed concerns that Knowles would wear inappropriate outfits, saying “all parties have come to an amicable understanding” about stage costumes at the stadium concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s largest city.

“We are confident that (the concert) will once and for all silence international critics and put Malaysia back on track … in presenting A-list international pop concerts in this region,” Marctensia said in a statement.

R&B superstar Beyonce has confirmed she will play the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Oct 25.

The show, organised by Marctensia and UCSI Communications, will see the 28-year-old perform in Kuala Lumpur for the first time.

The Beyonce “I am …” World Tour live in Malaysia 2009 promises to be a true spectacle, featuring the full production, with the singer bringing into Malaysia her state-of-art concert set-up, full touring band line-up and costume changes galore.

As of Aug 2, Beyonce’s tour has officially been ranked the No 1 concert attraction in the world thanks to record attendance and an unprecedented multi-leg journey, according to Billboard magazine.

With this Beyonce concert, the statement is that Malaysia is finally moving up the ranks in presenting A-list international pop concerts in this region.

Beyonce has sold a whopping 75 million records worldwide with hits like Crazy in Love, Irreplaceable, Single Ladies and Halo. She is currently the most successful female artiste this decade with tremendous success with both her group (Destiny’s Child) and her own career that has seen three solo albums.

Her “I am…” World Tour is the third worldwide concert tour by Beyoncé in support of her third studio album, I am … Sasha Fierce. The tour has visited North America and Europe.
