I am Ethiopian, and the fact that a well known artist from the U.S, I was hoping will bring positive attention to my country, and help restore the one sided characterization of my homeland as synonymous with HUNGER will be dispeled if Ms. Byonce contributed to showing the good things about my land. Don’t get me wrong I know there is a lot of poverty in Ethiopia as there is in many other places in the developing world. But there are positive aspects of Ethiopia as well that don’t get exposure in the western medial. We are not just a country full of hungry people. As a nation we are slowly but surely making strides economically, and in the not too distant future we can be self sufficient in food. Our country is not a deseret as most people who saw the images of hungry people believe, it is significant arable land, and many rivers, the great BLUE NILE that feeds the Sudanese and the Egyptians originates in Ethiopia. If we weren’t mired in endless Civil Wars and tribal conflicts we would not have a hunger problem. Second We have a rich cultrual heritage, and we are the only country in Africa that has never been colonized. Ethiopia is the founding member of the United nations, the Seat of the African Union, an important place in the major religions of the world, christianity, Islam, and Judaism and many more. I did not see any mention of the positve attributes of my country on the website of Byonce, all I saw was a launch of an Anti-Hunger initiative. As Ethiopians we celebrated the new millinum as our calander is seven years behind the western calander, a testament to our unique civilization, and culture, I forgot to mention we also have our own alphabet, the only country to have our own unique alphabet in Africa, I don’t say this to suggest we are somehow unique from the rest of African, or to impress you but to impress upon whoever might read this comment that WE are Proud African, and we would have liked for our African Sister from the United States to have used her Stardom to bring the POSITIVES of our culture, in her frist visit to our country. If she is inclined to be engaged in humanitarian causes like hunger eradication, she could have used other occasion but the very fact of her announcing her antihunger initiative to coincide with her arrival to Ethiopia, she created the negatively impacting the image of our land as synonymous with HUNGER. I don’t know if she is personally responsible for this but the people who are responsible for public relations as professional will not be as at a loss with how the media in the the west works. Living in the United States, I know people have short attention spans and they are not going to take the time to find out about a land that is halfway around the world, most americans don’t even know the senator from their own state, you get the Point.

THAT IS TRUE. THE HALL WORLD KNOWS ETHIOPIA AS SHE IS FULL OF HUNGER, BUT WHAT THE WORLD SHOULD KNOW IS ETHIOPIA HAS SO MANY THINGS THAT THE WORLD DOESN’T HAVE. SO I WILL JUST SAY GO TO ETHIOPIA AND JUST INJOY YOUR STAY!

beti  Posted On: October 21, 2007 at 9:10 am

ALL THINGS ARE TRUE WE HAVE LOTS OF THINGS THAT
THE WORLD SHOULD KNOW AND I THINK BEYONCE WILL BE VERY HAPPY IN STAYING ETHIOPIA YOU KNOW THAT!!!!!!!

Well, on behalf of Beyonce….she’s never been to Ethiopia…and by all indications was overwhelmed and overjoyed with her experience. From what a lot of us gathered from her experience, we know there’s sunshine in Ethiopia…and way too much to soak up in one trip.

Beyonce said she would be back…give her time to shed Ethiopia’s light on the rest of the world.

yes, yes, as beyonce says, “Ethiopia is my secnod home!”
Ethiopia is a country fulled with so much rich culture and background! I guarantee you if you were to visit the country once, you are guaranteed to visit again. As Yahoo news named Ethiopia one of the top 7 places to visit for 2007.

well let me just say it is the #1 place to visit in a lifetime! Humankind was discovered in Ethiopia and by saying that, there is no need to say more…

mike  Posted On: October 22, 2007 at 9:12 pm

It is natural to have both posetive and negative sides: but the main thing we ETHIOPIANS should emphasize is that, try to improve our well being by reducing poverty and deprivation as we have promised yesterday(23oct,2007)

Then we are capable of being a PROUD for Beyonce as she said “I will be back”. Even for others…………………………………..

Don’t you see how amazing it was? It is true that Beyonce it self was out of control in joy. She promised to visit Ethiopia again and to be a witness of Ethiopia’s positive things. She was impressed about all things she saw. We all hope as she will keep her promises. And I hope we all will see Ethiopian Dances (ISKISTA) in her future video clips. YOU ALL COME TO ETHIOPIA TO SHARE THE AMAZING NATURE AND CULTURE

Nigussie  Posted On: October 25, 2007 at 1:59 am

that was all true talking about ethiopia. ethiopia is amazing country we know that there are many people who think that ethiopia is poor country but if you come and see there are a lot of culture and nature in ethiopia even the first humankind was found in ethiopia and we are so proud of beyonce.
